Blind Buying Perfume

BLIND BUYING PERFUME - Purchasing a fragrance without having sampled or skin tested it first.

Ideally, it is best for you to try a fragrance before committing to it.  There really is no comparison to sampling perfume on your skin and giving it a full wear test.  This is especially true if you are considering a purchase of a perfume that you would consider pricey.  Many people believe it to be a bad idea to blind buy perfume.  Although I understand the reasoning behind this, it's not always possible to sample a scent before purchasing.

If you live in a metro area, you will have access to department stores, beauty boutiques and/or perfumeries.  In this case, it is convenient to go into the store and try a few fragrances.  Should you reside in a more rural area where you are hours away from the closest retailer, blind buying may be your easiest, and sometimes your only option.  Additionally, in this day and age of lock downs and social media, sometimes we just can't help ourselves. When one of our favorite influencers on YouTube or Instagram tell us they have discovered the most glorious scent they've ever put their nose on, we cave from time to time.  We are human, after all.

Now, before you go online to one of the discount retailers and load up your cart, understand that there is no guarantee you will love your purchase.  With blind buying, there is always a chance of buyers remorse.  However, if you do your research, it can be successful and even quite fun!  I recommend sticking with fragrance notes that you are familiar with and enjoy.  Keep these purchases in a price range that is comfortable for you, so that in the event of a "blind buy fail", you won't beat yourself up over it.  The bottom line is blind buying is a completely acceptable practice.  Just use some self discipline, set your own guidelines and stick to them.
